PURE: Public Urban Ritual Experiment

October 1, 2009 by 4dancers

pureHave you ever heard of PURE? Those who are into belly dance probably have, but it may be new to other members of the dance community. PURE stands for Public Urban Ritual Experiment, and according to the organization, it is a “collective of dancers and drummers who take music and dance out to the community for the purposes of healing and peace”.

You can find groups of dancers and musicians performing in many communities nationwide. New York has a very strong PURE presence, as does the Chicagoland area, but there are also groups in Michigan, Florida, California, Texas, Virginia and more. To find a PURE group near you, visit their website. If there is no group close by you can always get in touch with them to see about starting a branch of your own… [Read more…]

If you are looking for a good on-line dance dictionary (ballet oriented), check out American Ballet Theatre’s Online Ballet Dictionary. It has everything from Adagio to Viruoso. This is a good resource for dancers and also a good one for those who watch ballet and want to know a little bit more about it. Ballet teachers may be able to utilize these definitions in class.
