LinkedIn Etiquette Tips

September 9, 2010 by 4dancers

If you are using LinkedIn to represent yourself (or your studio) online, you’ll want to be sure that you understand and observe the rules of etiquette. After all, having an online presence is not exactly beneficial if you irritate or annoy other people, right?

If you are new to LinkedIn, or are not sure of how to operate in a social media savvy way, check out this resource for some great tips on professional networking on the web. It’s well worth a small investment of time to make sure that you are operating within the framework in a way that moves you forward–not one that holds you back.

New Dance Site: Pas de Trois at dancing3.com

August 20, 2010 by 4dancers

Well, to end the week we’ve got a new announcement here at 4dancers…

There is an exciting new project that I am a part of which will be starting on Monday. Henrik at Tights and Tiaras, David at Ballet for Men and I have been preparing this new site for a little while now…it’s called Pas de Trois (at dancing3.com) and we hope that you will join us as we explore the world of dance together.

Through Pas de Trois, we hope to get a lot of different perspectives on dance. Each week we will be featuring a new topic that will be posted on the site. Every couple days one of us will share our answer on our respective blogs, and we’ll always be encouraging you to take part as well.

It is our hope that Pas de Trois will serve as an online community where both dancers and dance lovers can talk about a variety of subjects related to the art.

We’ll announce our first discussion topic later today on the site. Also, check out our Facebook-page, join the discussion on Twitter, or add our RSS feed to your reader.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts as well!

Social Media: The Free Marketing Solution

August 9, 2010 by 4dancers

Have a tight budget for marketing your dance studio? Looking for ways to cut back on costs? If this sounds like you it is probably time to take a good hard look at social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn if you haven’t already done so.

If your first instinct is to roll your eyes and think, “Who has time?” or, “I don’t understand this stuff”, try to have an open mind. Social media not only offers you the ability to meet potential customers where they are at (on the web), but just as importantly, it is free.

Rather than pouring your hard-earned money into another ad campaign in the local paper, why not take an hour a week and begin setting up your social media campaign. You can learn a little at a time, and before you know it, you’ll be up and running on the web. Ask yourself–can you afford to do without a free marketing option that really works?

Using Lists On Facebook

August 2, 2010 by 4dancers

Using Facebook for both business and personal communication can be a little tricky. After all, you may not want all of your business contacts knowing that your basement flooded or that you are going on vacation. Luckily, the famous social media site gives you a tool that can help: Facebook Lists.

You can create separate lists for the various categories you would like. For example, I have a “dance” list, a “writing” list and a “friend” list. This helps me manage privacy levels and lets me see at a glance where I know someone from. This is a resource worth investigating–and it’s easy to set up too.

Use Social Media To Your Advantage

July 27, 2010 by 4dancers

There are many ways to use social media. You can connect with other dancers in the field, keep up on the latest happenings in terms of a company you like–or get the word out about your latest performances.

But don’t overlook sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn for things such as research.

If you are going to be interviewing for a job somewhere, check out the LinkedIn profile of the organization, or peek at their Facebook page for the latest info. Many employers are doing just that these days when it comes to screening potential applicants–why shouldn’t you use it to your advantage as well?

You just might pick up on a detail that will help you get the gig.
