Ballet Terminology Wallpaper

February 16, 2011 by 4dancers

Janet Jerger from Dance Teacher Press is with us today to talk about a product from her online store–Ballet Terminology Wallpaper…

One of my favorite products for the dance studio is the Ballet Terminology Wallpaper Border.  This beautiful border is 30 feet long with no repeats, and available in six colors.  You can display 31 essential terms above your mirrors. This visual display of terminology will reinforce and accelerate your students learning. Teachers enjoy pointing out the written words as they teach.  I no longer have to bring a white board or make posters when I introduce a term.

Dance Teacher Press also has a lower cost option of Ballet Terminology Banners.  They give the look of wallpaper border, but are made up of 18 cardstock cards.  (Think of the alphabet above the chalkboard in school.)

For more information on this product and other Dance Teacher Press items, visit their online store.

Social Media: More Than A Tool

January 25, 2011 by 4dancers

The title of this post says it all.

When I first started using social media to promote 4dancers, I did so grudgingly. I joined Twitter and scratched my head at how I was supposed to use it. I certainly didn’t think I’d enjoy it.

Using Facebook as a tool also lacked appeal for me. After all, the majority of my friends on there were actual friends and family.

LinkedIn seemed to make the most sense. After all, it was more of a “professional” site, designed to showcase your resume and develop connections.

So what happened? [Read more…]

The New Facebook Profile

December 28, 2010 by 4dancers

Today just a quick update regarding the new look on Facebook. If you aren’t really quite sure what is customizable and what isn’t, Mashable has a great overview of the features that are now available for your profile. Personally I like the old way better, but it looks like the change is here to stay, so learning how to work with the new layout is probably a good thing…

Why You Should Consider LinkedIn

November 17, 2010 by 4dancers

Are you on LinkedIn? If not, you probably should be.

CNN reported today that LinkedIn gains a new user every second. That’s pretty powerful. Designed to be a professional networking/social media tool, this site can help you establish a presence in a way that Facebook and Twitter can’t. LinkedIn is a great way to keep those in your field informed about what you are doing–especially those who you know well. Think of it as a kind of “online” resume with the power to update your status to those in your network.

If you haven’t yet started using this social networking tool, why not begin working on your profile today? You don’t have to complete it all at once, and it can be a terrific resource for you to use as a dance professional–whether you own a studio or are a member of a company. Want to know more? Here are a few facts I recruited from the site itself for your information:

+ Executives from all of the Fortune 500 companies are members of LinkedIn

+ Approximately half of the members on LinkedIn are outside the US

+ There are members in about 200 countries world-wide

+ LinkedIn currently has over 80 million members

Tweet Better–Use TwiTip

September 16, 2010 by 4dancers

It doesn’t matter whether you’ve been on Twitter for a week or a year–you can always learn more. When I first started using it, I didn’t like it at all. I now realize that is because I didn’t know how to use Twitter, and after some time I have really grown to like it. You can form relationships in ways that you can’t elsewhere online. Conversations are quick and to the point. People are helfpul and fun.

So how do you learn more about Twitter? You can do endless Google searches, or you can try out a site that is designed to give you the information you need. Try TwiTip and see what you think. It has a “starters guide” as well as sections for “getting followers” and “news”. Make it easy on yourself and take advantage of the fact that there is a ton of information in one spot that you can learn from.

And…if you haven’t already, join 4dancers on Twitter!
