Best Ballet Shoes Blog – How I got started

February 21, 2011 by 4dancers

Today we have a guest post from Lara–the editor of the Best Ballet Shoes blog….

Lara Friesen

My name is Lara and I recently began a website and blog all about the best ballet shoes.  Having a low arch and a longer second toe, finding ballet shoes that fit was a bit of a challenge for me.  But, it was worth the hunt – a great fitting shoe makes all the difference in your confidence and ultimately, your performance.

It must have been hard for my mother to drive me to ballet classes 4 times a week and buy me new shoes all the time. My mother had always dreamed of being a ballerina, but her immigrant parents didn’t have the money to send her to classes – so the dream continued through me, her first daughter.  I felt I owed it to her to indulge in her dream for a while, and then I learned to love it. Ballet Terminology Wallpaper

February 16, 2011 by 4dancers

Janet Jerger from Dance Teacher Press is with us today to talk about a product from her online store–Ballet Terminology Wallpaper…

One of my favorite products for the dance studio is the Ballet Terminology Wallpaper Border.  This beautiful border is 30 feet long with no repeats, and available in six colors.  You can display 31 essential terms above your mirrors. This visual display of terminology will reinforce and accelerate your students learning. Teachers enjoy pointing out the written words as they teach.  I no longer have to bring a white board or make posters when I introduce a term.

Dance Teacher Press also has a lower cost option of Ballet Terminology Banners.  They give the look of wallpaper border, but are made up of 18 cardstock cards.  (Think of the alphabet above the chalkboard in school.)

For more information on this product and other Dance Teacher Press items, visit their online store.

Resource: The Sacred Dance Guild

January 10, 2011 by 4dancers

Today I’d just like to share a resource with you. Those of you who are into sacred dance may already know about it, but if not, you may want to check out the Sacred Dance Guild.

There are a multitude of reasons that people dance. Some do it as a profession. Some do it for fun. Some to it to express their spirituality.

This organization is a great community for those who view dance as a form of prayer. Governed by a volunteer board, the SDG has members all over the world. Interested in becoming a member? Visit their website for more information.

December 22, 2010 by 4dancers

As a dance professional, managing your online presence is part of the overall picture when it comes to marketing yourself. Best Of: Dance Posts Across The Web

December 18, 2010 by 4dancers

Today I’d like to share a little collection of great dance posts from across the web…happy reading!

Ballet for Men recently did a post which asks, “How Does Dance Benefit Society?” that is definitely worth checking out.

Read the story of Swan Lake, as told by Henrik from Tights and Tiaras in his “Bedtime Story” series–he’s got a great way of spinning a yarn!

Hop on over to Dance Advantage and learn more about Nichelle’s dance blog contest for 2010. You can vote for as many as you like this round (and enter your own if you have one!). 4dancers would love your vote if you can spare a moment!

Read an enlightening interview with the Royal Ballet’s Nehemiah Kish over at The Ballet Bag.

Dr. Linda Hamilton (Wellness4Performers) shares a tip – “Why You Should Prepare For A Career Transition“.

Oberon’s Grove has a good review of Black Swan for those who are still trying to decide if they would like to see it. (I haven’t seen it yet…)

Do you have a link to share? Something you read about dance that you think others might enjoy? Feel free to post it in the comments section…
