Dance Advance

December 5, 2009 by 4dancers

If you think the picture here is interesting, just wait until you see the website.

Dance Advance is something I stumbled across while surfing, and I can’t believe I didn’t see it sooner. The “documents” section is what I would like to highlight here in particular, as there is some truly top-notch writing about dance in these articles–from all over the world. You’ll see pieces about Japanese ballet history, Cambodian dance history and well-crafted thought pieces on dance in general. This is a site for thinkers… [Read more…]

Bursitis And Tendinitis

December 3, 2009 by 4dancers

If you have ever had bursitis or tendinitis you know how much pain either of these can cause. Early on in my career I had Achillies tendinitis so bad that I could hardly dance. If you or a dancer you know suffers from either of these conditions, it is important to get medical help so that you can come up with a good treatment plan. For some background information on what the conditions are and some details on prevention, check out the National Institutes of Health.

LinkedIn & Twitter For Dance Professionals

November 20, 2009 by 4dancers

There is good news for dance professionals who use both LinkedIn and Twitter–you can now combine the two. LinkedIn is offering you the ability to add the “Tweets” app so that you can share what you post on Twitter with those on LinkedIn. You can also allow your Twitter account to be visible on your LinkedIn profile. It pays to utilize social media as much as possible, so try to set aside a few moments to take advantage of this new pairing if you can.

The Ballerina Gallery

November 8, 2009 by 4dancers

ballerinagThe Ballerina Gallery is a really interesting site that features a great collection of photos and information about famous ladies in dance. Names here range from Tanaquil Le Clercq to Patricia McBride, and there is a lot here to browse through.

The author of the site also has a section titled, “memorabilia” where she shares some of her collection with viewers. There are some great pieces here, including a signed photograph of Maya Plisetskaya and a signed copy of a Margot Fonteyn Autobiography.

I really enjoyed browsing around on this Website, and I hope you will too!

TwitterTips: A Resource For Dance Professionals

October 28, 2009 by 4dancers

twitter

Your dance bio on Twitter is a make it or break it thing…people will decide to follow you or ignore you based on that alone. I found a good resource that will help you think through how to write one. Want to share photos on Twitter? Did you know you can? You can use one of the photo sharing tools that have evolved to help out. While you are on TwitterTips, check out some of the other great info they have. Very helpful site.
