Rebecca graduated this summer with a first in Dance Studies from Middlesex University, London. The degree opened her eyes to a world of dance related theories and issues completely new to her, and whilst she loved the challenge of academia, she is now eager to delve deeper and find ways of applying this theoretical knowledge to practice.
Having had the privilege to spend a summer in Namibia working with the Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (an NGO which harnesses the arts to educate young people about HIV and AIDS), she is passionate about the potential which dance holds as an agent for individual empowerment and social change. She also enjoys choreography and believes dance performance should push boundaries and challenge audiences as it is such a powerful and versatile medium for communication.
Since graduating, Rebecca is letting the dust settle whilst working, taking class and getting stuck into writing for her own blog (www.letsthinkdance.wordpress.com). Alongside this she is a performer for Changing Spaces Theatre Company, an emerging dance theatre company based in London.
Her long term plans are to save up and travel – perhaps return to Namibia or venture elsewhere to work with other NGOs utilising the arts, and hopefully return to the UK to study for a Masters.
She is really excited and very grateful for the opportunity to intern for 4dancers.
